Ealing Council hosted an Ealing Business Partnership webinar on 2nd February, available on YouTube here. (Nick Rowe gives detailed information on business rates from about 36 minutes in the recording.) Ealing Borough has approximately 11,000 business rates payers and 6000 non-rate paying businesses operating in shared accommodations or the kitchen table. Ealing is the 20th biggest borough for business rates collection in the country, the 12th biggest in London and the 8th biggest for NNDR properties. During 2020-21 the council dealt with 18 grant schemes, each with different qualifying criteria and two relief schemes. They are currently dealing with two new Omicron grants, OHLG & OARG. There is also a new Covid Additional Restrictions Fund (CARF) for businesses outside of the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors that have been adversely affected by the pandemic, for example, a supply chain or admin office. The relief is a one-off payment for 2021-21 and will be auto awarded by the council.
The business multiplier will not be changing for 2022-23. - Small Business Multiplier £0.499 (RV up to £51k)
- Businesses over RV £51K £0.512
- Cross Rail Supplement @2p for all above £70K RV
Ealing Council only retains 30% of the business rates collected; the government get 33% and the GLA 37%. View the recording here.
