Retail Services Award - Pamela Hedderman - Marks & Spencer.

'Her service is genuine, interested, and she sticks with people to understand what they need and to help them find it.  Pamela's day job is Café & Bakery Supervisor. She is also the glamorous hostess at our Wine Tasting Evenings eight times per year.  Pamela sets up our Café for 'Frazzled Café' bi-weekly (mental well being peer-peer support group) and has more than played her part in the 20K the store raised for charity in the last 12 months.'

Commercial Services award - Noura Mehdinejad -  Northfields

'Noura is always on time and upbeat. She takes her role as Lettings Manager very seriously while maintaining a fun and professional work environment. Not only does Noura work hard for Northfields but she also participates fully in our charity partner events supporting the local Log Cabin charity (based in Northfields, W13). She has recently completed a 7km Mud Obstacle course challenge with colleagues raising nearly £2,000. Noura is a local Ealing girl and a great ambassador for Northfields and the local area.'

Commercial Business Award - Patricia Brady - REED

'Tricia (Patricia) is a professional powerhouse, she leads by example, consistently motivating, mentoring and training her team, she also tirelessly fundraises for a multitude of charities both inside and outside of work, her most recent being running this year's London Marathon in aid of Help Counselling where she raised over £3,000.  She actively promotes Ealing as a place to work, shop, socialise and exercise.'

Think Small is a blueprint for small businesses written by Nick King, a small business owner and Head of Business at the Centre for Policy Studies.

Nick was a special advisor in Government between 2012 and 2018 working with two Secretaries of State in three different Departments, including the Department for Business, Innovation & skills. Without bias, the report focusses at supporting small businesses. It is making a case for a new Simple Consolidated Tax (SCT) –a levy based on revenue of under £1million.

Think Small is proposing SCT levy as an option for small businesses; instead of paying separate Corporation Tax, Employer’s NI, VAT and business rates.

The Blueprint is not suggesting it will reduce the total amount of tax, a business has to pay. By using modelling compiled by Capital Economics, they demonstrate that a levy of 12.5% would make SCT revenue-neutral for the Treasury. Think Small is looking for solutions to lessen the legislative and compliance burden on small businesses so they can concentrate on their business.

Small businesses are the backbone of the British economy. With over 5.6 million small businesses in the United Kingdom as defined by the Companies Act 2006, they employ 12.9 million people and generate a combined turnover of £1.4 trillion. Early June saw the #LOVENOTLANDFILL clothes swap, an innovative idea from the Centre Management, to encourage people to swap clothes. The idea was for people to drop garments off between 9 – 10.30am and for every item donated they would receive a token. At 11am, they could return and swap their tokens for garments. It proved to be great fun and very successful.

The annual Buskathon event proved to be another winner this year with some great music from local musicians. They raised nearly £600 for Charity. Check out the video clip here.
